Cornbread is a timeless comfort food, often gracing tables as a warm and hearty side dish. While traditional recipes often call for all-purpose flour, creating a gluten-free cornbread is easier than you might think. By substituting gluten-free flours for wheat-based ones, you can enjoy delicious cornbread without compromising on taste or texture.

Corn flour, a finely ground version of dried corn, is naturally gluten-free and the key ingredient in this cornbread recipe. Its slightly sweet, earthy flavor pairs perfectly with cornmeal, adding richness and depth to the dish. If you’d like to make the cornbread recipe gluten-free, you can replace the all-purpose flour with gluten-free flour blends or other single-ingredient options like almond flour, rice flour or sorghum flour.

When modifying the recipe, consider using a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend. This makes for an easy swap without drastically altering the texture of your cornbread. Alternatively, you can experiment with combining equal parts corn flour and almond flour for a denser, more rustic cornbread. Just be sure to adjust the liquid ingredients slightly, as some gluten-free flours absorb more moisture.
