Summer isn’t complete without a s’more by the fire. Level up your campfire game this summer with a fresh spin on a summertime staple with these savory s’mores!
Savory s’mores combine the thrill of charcuterie with the fun of a bonfire. The best part is that you can build your spread based on personal flavor preferences and profiles that make sense for you and your guests.
Start by building out your charcuterie board with some cracker base options. You can keep it simple with a butter cracker for the kids and build out more flavorful cracker options for those with a more refined palate.
Next, you will want to identify some protein options. A variety of sliced meats such as salami, pepperoni, prosciutto or similar proteins are a great option for assembling your s’more. Consider your personal favorite flavors and consider any preferences for the guests you might be including, as well.
We cannot forget the star of the show: the cheese. Brie cut into small wedges or individually wrapped cheese wheels, such as Babybel cheese, are great for this. Take your cheese and skewer it onto your campfire roasting stick. Place over the fire and allow to roast until your desired level of melt. If you prefer a more toasted option, place the cheese closer to the fire but watch carefully as not to burn or ruin your cheese!
A savory s’more is not complete without a little pop of sauce. Fig jam or fruit jams work well to give a touch of sweetness to balance the savory flavors. Additionally, playing with a bit of honey also works as an option in this recipe.
Once you have built your s’more, give it a good smoosh and you are ready to enjoy! This is a great recipe to play with different flavors, dietary requirements and preferences that will be serve your guests well this summer.
